“Adopt, Don’t Shop!” Say These 5 KPOP Idols

Updated: May 5, 2023

Within the past few years, KPOP has become a global sensation with the rise of multi-talented artists like BTS, BLACKPINK, Aespa, NCT, amongst other amazing idol groups. Despite their packed schedules and superstar status, some of our favourite KPOP idols are never too busy to adopt a dog of their own. It is not wrong to say that they not only have superb voices, they also have incredible hearts!

Here is a list of 5 KPOP idols who are huge dog lovers and have a furkid of their own:

1. Rosé from BLACKPINK

Rosé from BLACKPINK is well known among her fans as an animal lover who is always down to give hugs and pats to any doggos. She also has a celebrity dog named Hank (@hank_says_hank) who has a total of 4M followers on Instagram as of writing. He is a mixed breed dog and is currently 2 years old.

Rosé came across Hank when she was searching online to adopt a dog. Hank was reportedly abandoned by his previous owner and was later placed under the care of an animal shelter in Gangneung. When Hank was officially adopted by Rosé, his foster care shared on her social media that Hank had found a wonderful furever home! And now, he even joins her occasionally in interviews and music shows.

2. DKZ (formerly known as DONGKIZ)

DKZ, an up-and-coming 4th generation KPOP boy band, has gone viral for adopting a senior dog named Dangree. He is around 7 to 8 years old. Just like his new family, Dangree (@dongree_dy) is also a rising celebrity dog with a total of 24.8K followers on Instagram.

Jaechan and Jonghyeong of DKZ first met Dangree when they went to volunteer at an animal shelter in Nonsan. They eventually adopted him and named him after their famous ghost mascot, Dongree. The animal shelter also shared that DKZ’s company, Dongyo Entertainment, adopted a second dog from the shelter!

3. HyunA and DAWN

HyunA and DAWN, who used to be one of the hottest KPOP couples, captured everyone’s heart when they announced they had adopted a rescue dog together. Their dog is called Haetnim which means sunbeam in Korean.

According to their former company, HyunA and DAWN often went to an animal shelter in the No Won district together. They decided to adopt Haetnim and raise him together after learning that the shelter was having difficulties finding people to adopt him. DAWN later posted a picture of HyunA holding Haetnim tearfully and added a comment asking people to adopt instead of buying.

HyunA has always been known for her love for dogs. Back in 2013, she adopted an abandoned dog she found at Cheonggyecheon. She had also appeared in campaigns which supported the adoption of rescue dogs with all proceeds going to an animal protection organisation.

4. Moonbyul from MAMAMOO

MAMAMOO is one of the few KPOP idol groups where almost all members are proud pawrents (except for Hwasa, the group’s main vocalist and rapper, who is allergic to animal fur). However, one of the members, Moonbyul, especially caught the attention of netizens when she adopted an abused and abandoned dog named Harang.

Already a busy parent of three doggos called Daebak, Haengwoon and Kunkang, Moonbyul went out of her way despite her busy schedule to adopt Harang, a 4-year-old dog who was infected with heartworms and previously severely mistreated. The animal shelter that rescued Harang also posted a thank-you note to Moonbyul on Instagram for her selfless act!

5. Seungyoon from WINNER

The leader of WINNER, Seungyoon, surprised his fans in a good way when he adopted a puppy mill rescue dog named Thor from an animal shelter. The poodle was originally going to be put to sleep if Seungyoon had not adopted him.

In one of his livestream sessions, he also said that it is not good to buy dogs at pet shops and asked his fans to carefully consider before adopting a pet.

We hope the stories of these selfless KPOP idols can inspire you to stop buying and adopt from animal shelters and independent rescuers instead! Please share these stories with your family and friends so that they know rescue dogs also deserve a second chance.
